At least 27 people killed in monsoon rains in Gujarat, Northwestern India

At least 27 people have been killed as a result of heavy monsoon-related rains that have hit northwestern India since Monday.Local authorities reported that the death toll from rain-related incidents in the Indian state of Gujarat has risen to 27, noting that the most vulnerable areas are the cities of Palitana and Jessore, which recorded 867 millimeters of rainfall in 24 hours.They added that the victims died as a result of storms, lightning, and collapsed structures, emphasizing that rescue operations are ongoing.Landslides and floods often occur in India during the monsoon season, which falls between June and September.These rains are a lifeline for farmers, but they can also cause deaths and property damage.
