Trump travel ban takes effect, barring citizens of 12 countries from US

US President Donald Trump's executive order that bans citizens from 12 countries from entering the US took effect Monday. The order, which Trump signed last Wednesday, applies to citizens of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. It also imposes partial restrictions on individuals from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela who are outside the United States and do not hold a valid visa. The new ban does not cancel previously issued visas for individuals from the listed countries, according to guidelines issued earlier this week to all US diplomatic missions
