On Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, where it is currently under construction, the Zayed National Museum has announced a yearly fund of Dh1 million to support studies on the history and culture of the UAE as well as the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the country’s founding father.
Research on Sheikh Zayed’s influence on social, cultural, and economic effect, UAE history and archaeology, and the nation’s intangible heritage, including oral history on customs, stories, and songs, are among the grant projects prioritized for funding. The awards will also concentrate on the interactions between the UAE and other nations throughout the history of the Arabian Peninsula and Indian Ocean.
A new generation of researchers will be given more influence by the funding program, which intends to support both major and small awards. Applications for awards are accepted through July 15; recipients will be announced in September. For up to three years straight, the financing is extendable.
A panel consisting of representatives from the Zayed National Museum and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT – Abu Dhabi), as well as outside subject matter experts, will review applications and make decisions based on factors such as the applicant’s research methodology, experience, results, and relevance to the museum’s mission.

The research fund, according to Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary, DCT – Abu Dhabi, represents the department’s dedication to promoting and safeguarding the cultural and history of the United Arab Emirates.
“This program aims to provide a plethora of undiscovered tales about our late founder Sheikh Zayed, illuminating the significant influence he had on the growth and development of our country. We are steadfastly committed to equipping the following generation so they can uphold his enduring legacy and heritage and foster a sense of pride and devotion in the hearts of future generations.
Zayed National Museum Director Dr. Peter Magee stated: “This fund confirms our commitment to examining and promoting UAE culture, history, and legacy by encouraging both seasoned and emerging scholars to delve deeply, unearth, and share the UAE’s story with the world. We are thrilled to provide this chance to any researchers who are interested in advancing knowledge and researching Sheikh Zayed’s ongoing influence on the nation he built and the whole region.
Significant advancements have been made in the construction of the Zayed National Museum, including the completion of its distinctive wing structures. The distinctive atria are made to resemble a falcon’s wings, a representation of the UAE’s national heritage. This is symbolic of how the museum’s design is infused with UAE culture and legacy.
