Chrisann Pereira, a Bollywood actress who was charged in a narcotics case in the United Arab Emirates, arrived back in Mumbai on Wednesday. On April 1, Pereira—who played in the Mahesh Bhatt-directed Bollywood film “Sadak 2″—was detained at the Sharjah airport when drugs were discovered inside a souvenir that some people had urged her to give to a person in the UAE. The actor was detained in Sharjah for almost a month.
Chrisann was detained in Sharjah for a drug case, according to Mumbai DCP Raj Tilak Roushan, who revealed this information during a news conference on Thursday. He claimed that Chrisann’s mother complained in Mumbai that Chrisann didn’t use the drugs herself, that they were planted, and that a few others were involved.
The investigation was launched by the police based on the complaint, and they discovered that three individuals who were rivals with Pereira had given her a keepsake in which they had hidden cocaine.
The Sharjah authorities freed her following the investigation into the case, but she was unable to return to Mumbai right away due to various legal requirements. The actor was given permission to depart for India by UAE officials after the necessary legal procedures were finished.
According to the news agency PTI, Anthony Paul and his companion Rajesh alias Ravi Bobhate allegedly sought Rs 80 lakh from Pereira’s mother to secure her release when she was detained in the UAE.
The actor was freed when the Mumbai Police forwarded case-related paperwork to UAE authorities. Paul, Bobhate, and another individual were charged by the Mumbai Police in June for allegedly using Pereira as a scapegoat in the drug case.
