14 AI Smart Pedestrian Crossing Systems have been introduced throughout Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), a member of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), and Derq, a well-known provider of Artificial Intelligence (AI) analytics solutions for road safety and traffic management.
This accomplishment is a result of their collaboration, which aims to give DSO access to cutting-edge tools and smart city solutions.
Pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users (VRUs) can be easily and reliably identified using Derq’s “Real-Time Perception and Connectivity AI Platform”. This ground-breaking solution easily connects with the road infrastructure to improve safety measures and is the first of its type in the area. The device may actively activate flashing warning signs, in-road warning lights, and even traffic signal controllers in anticipation of people crossing, successfully preventing any possible confrontations with approaching automobiles. This is done by using patented behavior prediction models. The system also gathers useful information to improve road users’ awareness of safety issues and the responsiveness of pertinent authorities to traffic performance. This accomplishment comes after two years of intensive testing meant to confirm the proof of concept’s security and efficacy.
“The implementation of Derq’s AI Smart Pedestrian Crossing System at DSO aligns directly with the objectives outlined in the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan,” said Muammar Al Katheeri, Chief Officer of Engineering and Sustainability at DIEZ. We are building a remarkable environment that prioritizes innovation, safety, and sustainability by using this cutting-edge technology.
A smooth and intelligent living and working experience is provided to residents and business partners by this system, which solidifies DSO’s status as a technologically sophisticated zone. We will continue to make outstanding progress toward maintaining pedestrian safety and furthering Dubai’s smart city goal thanks to our ongoing cooperation with Derq.
“Our partnership with DIEZ aligns well with the vision of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, to establish Dubai as a bicycle-friendly city with strong safety measures and to promote eco-friendly transportation options,” said Dr. Georges Aoude, CEO and Co-Founder of Derq.
“DIEZ has been essential to the effective rollout of our state-of-the-art AI Smart Pedestrian Crossing system in DSO. This milestone is very important to us because it shows how committed we are to advancing road safety and enabling the safe and effective mobility of both human drivers and autonomous cars. We are eager to share the beneficial results of our initiatives in Dubai and around the world.
The AI algorithms in the new system are made to recognize and monitor approaching automobiles and other road users. This capability increases the system’s impact on the approaching vehicles’ ability to react quickly. The control algorithms of the system also give users the freedom to activate or deactivate notifications and regulate their length.
At pedestrian crossings, this cutting-edge capability guarantees maximum safety and effective traffic management.
The system also has a 5G connection that is extremely fast and low latency, ensuring smooth connectivity. The system’s operator may operate, maintain, and configure the system remotely because to this sophisticated connectivity, which also enables significant data collecting of traffic and safety occurrences. The system will soon be able to take advantage of 5G communication technology to efficiently provide warnings and safety information to linked automobiles as they approach the pedestrian crosswalk.
