Jordan, Iraq agree to strengthen bilateral coordination to face challenges

Jordan and Iraq underlined the importance of strengthening bilateral coordination to face the challenges imposed by the region's circumstances, supporting Syria, respecting and protecting its security and citizens, preserving its territorial integrity and ensuring the representation of all its components in the political process. This came in a joint statement issued following official talks held by Jordanian House of Representatives Speaker Ahmed Safadi and his Iraqi counterpart Mahmoud Al Mashhadani on Thursday in Amman. The statement also stressed enhancing prospects for Jordanian-Iraqi economic cooperation, and pointed to the importance of completing the project to extend the oil pipeline from Basra to Aqaba, which is considered an important economic transport artery for the benefit of the two countries, and working to support various joint bilateral and tripartite projects with Egypt. The statement also noted the support for all efforts aimed at stopping the brutal aggression on the Gaza Strip, rejecting attempts to displace Palestinians in the Strip and the West Bank, working to double efforts to deliver relief supplies to the Strip, and rejecting all forms of extremist actions by settlers in various Palestinian territories.
