UN experts call for full compliance with ICC arrest warrants against Netanyahu, Galant

UN human rights' experts urged full compliance with the International Criminal Court's (ICC) arrest warrants issued against Israeli entity's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former War Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity. In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the experts said that ICC arrest warrants can help save lives, and they must be enforced, urging full compliance with the ICC's arrest warrants.’The ICC's decision marks a historic step towards justice and accountability, offering hope for ending decades of impunity for long-standing serious violations of international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT),’ the experts said.Israel's protracted lack of accountability has been an enabling factor to the increasing and untenable violence in the region, they said.Since Oct. 7, 2023, and the military aggression on Gaza and the rest of the OPT, the independent experts have received and documented evidence of grave violations of international law committed against civilian populations, according to the statement. In welcoming the ICC's decision, the experts reminded States of their legal and moral obligation to uphold international law and punish war criminals. On Thursday, the ICC's Pre-Trial Chamber I unanimously issued two decisions rejecting challenges by the Israeli occupation state brought under articles 18 and 19 of the Rome Statute (the Statute). It also issued warrants of arrest for Netanyahu and Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
