British PM, European officials discuss US-imposed tariffs’ impacts

British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, discussed the impacts of the US-imposed tariffs during a phone conversation held Sunday with European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen; German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz; and German Christian Democratic Union party leader, Friedrich Merz.According to a statement issued by the United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister's office, all of the aforementioned officials agreed that this is a new era for the global economy and that Europe must rise to the challenge of facing this moment and ensuring that its impacts on hard-working people is minimized, while also working closely with other countries to maintain broader economic stability.Starmer expressed his disappointment by these new tariffs and said that he will carry on to act in line with the UKs national interests.The British Premier stressed his commitment to advancing plans to strengthen the United Kingdom's economy and ensure its resilience, enabling it to withstand such global shocks.Starmer added that it is imperative for the UK to enhance its trade relationships with other countries around the world at the same time.
