Trump renews commitment to tariff policy

US President Donald Trump said he would not back down from his sweeping tariffs on imports from most countries unless the affected countries adjust their trade balance with Washington.Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, he said that he doesn't want anything to go down, but ‘sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something’.Al-Hurra TV reported that Trump's statements come at a time of growing fears of a financial market collapse, with the new tariffs set to take effect next Wednesday, amid warnings of a global recession.US stock futures fell on Sunday evening, with the Dow Jones index falling 4% and the Nasdaq index falling nearly 5%.Trump indicated that he had received positive signals from more than 50 countries willing to negotiate.
