S. Korea’s forest fires kill 26, destroy nearly 36,000 hectares

Forest fires in South Korea have killed 26 people, bringing the total death toll to 56.According to data released by the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH), the fires have caused 26 deaths so far, in addition to eight serious injuries and 22 minor injuries.The fires have also displaced 37,185 people, of whom 20,485 have returned to their homes, while 16,700 remain unable to return.Extinguishing efforts are ongoing in 10 locations, with the affected area reaching 36,009 hectares, more than 10,000 hectares exceeding the area affected by the worst forest fires in South Korea's history in 2000, which amounted to 23,794 hectares.
