North Korea denounces G7 Foreign Ministers joint call to abandon nuclear weapons

North Korea denounced the joint call by the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) countries for Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear weapons, threatening to enhance its nuclear forces in both quality and quantity.Yonhap News Agency said that North Korea's foreign ministry denounced G7 for taking issue with the North's just exercise of its sovereign rights, saying it is the G7 that focuses on ‘illegal and malicious nuclear proliferation’ under the pretext of nuclear sharing or providing extended deterrence,G7 should thoroughly abandon its anachronistic ambition for nuclear hegemony before talking about someone's denuclearization and dismantlement of nukes, the North Korea's foreign ministry said in a statement carried by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).Pyongyang emphasized that the country's status as a nuclear state, as stipulated in its constitution, will not change, regardless of whether the outside world acknowledges it.The ministry added that North Korea will continue to develop and enhance its nuclear armed forces, both in quantity and quality, in response to external nuclear threats, in accordance with its constitution and other national laws.The foreign ministers of the G7 countries issued a joint statement following a meeting in La Malbaie, Canada last Friday, calling on North Korea to abandon its nuclear and ballistic missile programs and condemning its military support for Russia in its war against Ukraine.
