German postal company Deutsche Post announced on Thursday that it will cut 8,000 jobs by the end of the year, citing high costs. The cuts, affecting about 4% of the domestic letter and parcel division's 187,000 employees, will be carried out in a socially responsible manner, the company said.Deutsche Post said the move is part of a wider cost-cutting programme aimed at improving efficiency.
