German postal company Deutsche Post announced on Thursday that it will cut 8,000 jobs by the end of the year, citing high costs.The cuts, affecting about 4% of the domestic letter and parcel division's 187,000 employees, will be carried out in a socially responsible manner, the company said.Deutsche Post said the move is part of a wider cost-cutting programme aimed at improving efficiency. The savings programme also extends to other areas of the globally operating logistics giant DHL Group, which has its German division operating as Deutsche Post, and employs about 600,000 people worldwide.
