Irregular migration flows decline by 60 percent- Italy

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said that Italy has succeeded in reducing the number of irregular migrants arriving in the country.The country has succeeded in reducing irregular migration flows by 60 percent, thanks to a large number of international agreements, Piantedosi said in a speech during a conference on combating irregular migration.The minister referred to the operational agreements with police departments in the countries, adding that Italy is structuring a stable reception system that does not jeopardize the safety of cities, and is based on a serious and sustainable reception.’We are recording an increase of 15-20 percent in expulsions, or effective repatriations, but it is still not enough’, the minister noted.Italy is the most important destination of arrival of migrants illegally across the Mediterranean from African countries.
