YouTube launches AI-powered ‘jump ahead’ feature

YouTube launched a new AI-powered feature called ‘Jump ahead’ to more Premium members, allowing them to skip commonly skipped sections of videos more efficiently. After double-tapping to skip ahead in a video, a button appears, indicating a jump to where most viewers typically skip. This pill-shaped ‘Jump ahead’ button appears briefly in the bottom-right corner of the screen and disappears if not used immediately.Upon tapping the ‘Jump ahead’ button, users will see an overlay stating, ‘Jumping over commonly skipped section,’ with a YouTube Premium badge. This feature is currently available in the US on the YouTube Android app for English videos and may expand to other platforms and regions in the future. The feature uses machine learning to analyze watching data and automatically identify the next best point of interest in a video. This jump ahead capability works similarly to the existing double-tap skip feature, which moves the video forward in 10-second increments. However, the ‘Jump ahead’ feature offers a more targeted skipping option, taking users directly to the points in a video where most viewers skip.
