5.3-Magnitude earthquake strikes Indonesia’s Papua Province

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit Papua province, eastern Indonesia on Sunday.

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency stated that the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 100 km from the city of Sarmi, at a depth of 20 km.

Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
