US President Donald Trump on Sunday declared Kerr County, Texas a disaster zone after 59 people were killed and dozens remain missing as a result of flooding that swept through the county following heavy rains.
The US President said in a post on Truth Social, ‘The purpose of the declaration is to ensure that rescuers have the resources they need immediately.’
Trump added, ‘Families in this county are suffering an unimaginable tragedy, with several lives lost and many more still missing.’
The National Weather Service confirmed that the risk of flooding has receded in parts of Kerr County following the heavy thunderstorms that hit the area on Friday.
The agency had previously declared a state of emergency after the Guadalupe River rose eight meters in just 45 minutes, causing flash flooding that swept through summer camps and some residential areas.
