Beijing, June 29 (QNA) – The Chinese Ministry of Commerce affirmed that Beijing strongly rejects any trade agreements with the United States that come at the expense of Chinese interests under the pretext of ‘tariff relief.’
‘If such a situation arises, China will not accept it and will take resolute countermeasures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests,’ China's Xinhua News Agency quoted a ministry spokesperson as saying in a statement.
The spokesperson noted that since April, the US has continued to impose what he described as ‘reciprocal tariffs’ on its trading partners, considering these measures to be a model of ‘unilateral bullying,’ undermining the multilateral trading system and disrupting the normal international trade order.
The spokesperson added that Beijing welcomes other countries' efforts to resolve their trade disputes with Washington through dialogue on an equal footing, calling on all parties to uphold the principles of fairness and justice, defend the international trading system, and stand on the ‘right side of history.’
‘It is proven that only by firmly defending its principle and position can a country truly protect its legitimate rights,’ the spokesperson said.
