Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met Tuesday night with his US counterpart Donald Trump.According to a statement from the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, Presidents Erdogan and Trump discussed bilateral relations and regional and global issues on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in The Hague, Netherlands.During the meeting, the Turkish president emphasized to his US counterpart the importance of dialogue to end the humanitarian tragedy in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible, and to find a peaceful solution to Russia-Ukraine war.Erdogan expressed to Trump his welcome of the ceasefire between the Israeli entity and Iran through the US president's efforts, expressing his hope that it would be permanent.Regarding bilateral relations, Erdogan stressed during the meeting that enhancing cooperation in the defense industry would facilitate achieving the $100 billion total trade volume target between the two countries.According to the statement, Erdogan and Trump emphasized the importance of taking steps to strengthen NATO's deterrent power.
