The United Nations will organize a new photo exhibition as part of the Photoville Festival in New York City. The ‘Through Her Lens: Women Rising for Peace’ exhibition features original photographs taken by women photographers from various regions and celebrates the role of women in promoting peace and defending human rights. It highlights the impact and influence women have in advancing peace, particularly in some of the world's most conflict-affected areas. The exhibition will open in New York from June 7 to 22, after which it will travel to several countries featured in the photos before arriving at the European Parliament in Brussels, and subsequently at the UN Headquarters in New York in October. The exhibition, which includes photographs taken in Cyprus, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Kosovo, Lebanon, Mozambique, Palestine, South Sudan, and Sudan, is being held in celebration of the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (adopted in 2000), the first resolution to recognize the vital leadership role of women in achieving international peace and security and their contributions to conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
