United States Vice President JD Vance, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni discussed ways to advance commercial talks between the US and the European Union (EU).In a press statement following their meeting at the Vatican on Sunday, Vance hoped that his meeting with von der Leyen and Meloni would help advance trade talks and mark the beginning of commercial negotiations and long-term trade benefits for both Europe and the US, saying that Europe is an important US ally. However, as is the case with friends, there are disagreements between the parties on issues such as trade, he added.For her part, the European Commission President said that trade relations between the EU and the US are the largest in the world, exceeding USD 1.5 trillion annually.Von der Leyen added that both sides have exchanged talking points for future discussions, adding that experts must now delve into the details and hopefully both sides will reach a mutually beneficial agreement.
