UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday called for ‘maximum military restraint’ from India and Pakistan, saying the world cannot afford a military confrontation between the two countries.His remarks were shared by spokesperson Stephane Dujarric following India's announcement of ‘Operation Sindoor’, a series of targeted strikes in response to the Pahalgam attack.’The Secretary-General is very concerned about the Indian military operations across the Line of Control and international border. He calls for maximum military restraint from both countries. The world cannot afford a military confrontation between India and Pakistan,’ Dujarric said.His remarks come amid rising hostilities between the two countries following the deadly attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. The attack, which killed 26 people, has been linked by India to Pakistan-based groups.The UN Security Council held a closed door meeting on Monday to discuss the growing tensions between India and Pakistan, following a request from Islamabad for an emergency meeting. The discussions took place at UN headquarters in New York.
