Nearly 100 killed as heavy rains lash India and Nepal

Nearly 100 people have lost their lives after heavy rains and thunderstorms swept across large parts of India and Nepal since Wednesday, with authorities warning of continued severe weather in the coming days.In Indias eastern state of Bihar, Disaster Management Department reported that at least 64 people have died in various rain and storm-related incidents since Wednesday.In Uttar Pradesh, Indias most populous state, local media reported that more than 20 people were killed due to the harsh weather conditions.Meanwhile in neighboring Nepal, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority confirmed that at least eight people were killed by lightning strikes and torrential rainfall, which also caused damage across several regions.Authorities in both countries are closely monitoring the situation amid warnings of ongoing severe weather and its humanitarian and material impact.Indias Meteorological Department has forecast more unseasonal rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across central and eastern parts of the country through Saturday.
