The World Food Program (WFP) expressed deep concern over recent notifications from the US administration indicating the end of funding for emergency food assistance in 14 countries.The United Nation's WFP said in a statement: ‘If implemented, this could amount to a death sentence for millions of people facing extreme hunger and starvation.”We are in contact with the US administration to seek clarification and to urge for continued support for these life-saving programs’, the statement added. The WFP affirmed its gratitude for the contributions it has received from the United States and all other donors.It also stressed that its staff continue to work tirelessly to reach vulnerable communities with food assistance in all hunger hotspots around the world.The US administration has informed the WFP and other partners that it has ended some of the last remaining humanitarian programs providing much-needed assistance in several countries.
