Germany reopens its Embassy in Syria, 13 years after it was closed

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced the reopening of her country's embassy in Damascus, today, after it was closed in 2012.In a statement, Baerbock explained that a small number of German diplomats are now planned to work on site to contribute to stabilizing and rebuilding the severely devastated country.She noted that Stefan Schneck has been appointed chargé d'affaires at the embassy until a new ambassador is appointed at a later date.
