S. Korea, US conduct military drills to enhance readiness to counter threats

South Korea's Army announced on Wednesday that South Korean and US forces have begun a large-scale combat command training exercise, as part of their efforts to enhance their joint readiness to counter military threats.According to Yonhap News Agency, approximately 1,200 soldiers from both sides participated in the five-day exercise at training facilities in Incheon, west of Seoul, and in the border city of Paju.The ongoing drills included units from the 17th Infantry Division, the Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Defense Command, as well as the Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the US 2nd Infantry Division.The drills included computer simulations designed to enhance commanders' combat command and control capabilities, as well as counter-weapons of mass destruction operations, air maneuvers, and field exercises to provide a realistic training environment.These exercises coincided with the Freedom Shield, an annual springtime exercise conducted between the two countries, and are scheduled to last 11 days.
